History is a strange thing: in the wrong hands, it can be dull and dusty, but with a great teacher, book or piece of media, it can be wonderful.
One example of the latter is Bramble Berry Tales – The Great Sasquatch, the latest app from developer Loud Crow Interactive. It’s part of a series based on the stories of indigenous North American tribes, bringing them to a new and younger audience.
The app itself is based on two characters called Thomas and Lily, investigating the mystery of the Great Sasquatch (or Bigfoot, as you may know him).
“Stories often have a valuable message, and Thomas soon discovers the age-old lesson that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Discover the origins of the Sasquatch (Sásq’ets), inspired by the Indigenous oral history of the Sto:lo Nation,” explains its App Store listing.
What kids get is a story fuelled by the history, with word highlighting and word definitions – and even the option of Halq’eméylem language as well as English, French or Spanish.
Bramble Berry Tales - The Great Sasquatch costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store and £1.80 for Android from the Google Play store.
