Leo’s EyePaint app offers augmented reality painting

leos-eyepaintWe’ve written a fair bit about the Leo’s Pad apps from developer Kidaptive, and the EyePaint creativity apps from developer Curious Hat. Now they’re coming together.

Meet Leo’s EyePaint, a new app that features the stars of Leo’s Pad mixed up with the clever augmented-reality photography of the EyePaint apps. The idea: “An innovative painting app that helps preschoolers make artwork using a camera and their surroundings”.

It’s aimed at under-fives, who can use their iPhone or iPad’s camera to collect colours and patterns from the real world, which are then used to colour in the drawings of the various characters. Photo-painting, if you will.

The app has been designed to be as easy to use as possible, although we think it’ll still be fun for parents and young children to use together. We remember how much our kids enjoyed a similar feature in the Toca Tailor app, dragging us round the house to find new sources of colour and texture.

Leo’s EyePaint is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
