Pirates! Princesses! They don’t usually cross over: kids have to choose one or the other in books, games and toys (with the not-so-hidden implication that pirates are for boys and princesses for girls).
Well, tear up the rulebook. The latest app from StoryToys is called Strangebeard - The Pirate Princess. No, she doesn’t have a beard…
It’s a storybook-app about a princess named Isabel, who goes to a party dressed as a pirate, and then finds her self sucked into “an incredible, action-packed adventure filled with pirate galleons, fearsome monsters and fruit-flinging monkeys”.
The app uses StoryToys’ familiar technology to create a pop-up style digital book, with mini-games and lots of interactivity, including dancing, climbing down cliffs, fighting those monkeys and battling a sea monster.
It looks great, and we love the idea of a pirate princess. Strangebeard - The Pirate Princess costs £2.49 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, and £2.49 for Android on the Google Play store.
