The Skylanders games have been a big hit with children on games consoles, with the series spawning several mobile games too. Now publisher Activision has released a new Skylanders app.

It’s called Skylanders Collection Vault, and it’s more about keeping tabs on kids’ collection of physical toys – the ones they scan in to the various games.

Well, not just the ones they own: if anything, this is a catalogue showing off all the Skylanders characters through videos, images (including 360-degree photography), stats and biographies.

Sharing features are also a big part of the app, with children able to browse the collections of friends, and even challenge them to see “who has the strongest collection” (a ranking that might also be described as “who has the most generous parents”).

Skylanders Collection Vault is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
