Here’s a nice idea: a virtual town for 2-6 year-olds to explore on their iOS or Android device, visiting locations and playing 14 different mini-games based on them.
The app is called Fun Town for Kids, and it’s the work of developer Touch & Learn, whose founder is a film production designer who’s previously worked on movies like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Band of Brothers and Love Actually.
That big-screen background looks to have translated well to a small-screen children’s app. Kids can make hamburgers in the town’s restaurant, build bikes in its bike shop, sort fruit in the grocer’s and scan and pack shopping in the supermarket, among other activities.
The app is lightly educational, with shape, number and colour matching as well as number and shape recognition skills all given a workout. Children collect medals as they work their way through the different town locations, with the aim of winning a gold cup at the end.
Fun Town for Kids costs £0.69 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, and £0.65 for Android on the Google Play store.
