Children’s film Walking with Dinosaurs - The 3D Movie is expected to be big this Christmas, and its popularity could extend onto iPhone and iPad.

Developer Mindshapes has released Walking with Dinosaurs - Patchi’s Journey, based on the story of baby dinosaur Patchi as he grows up to lead his herd.

The app is part storybook, and part mini-games; from breaking out of Patchi’s egg, creating a tune by whistling; fending off predators (including roaring at them by actually roaring into the iOS device’s microphone); and collecting printable dino models.

The latter feature sounds really good: kids will unlock the models as they work their way through the storyline, and can then email them or print them out using Apple’s wireless AirPrint technology.

Once printed, they can be folded together and made: digital play inspiring real-world craft, which we always like. Walking with Dinosaurs - Patchi’s Journey costs £2.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store.
