Big wheels. Big engines. Big cat-scaring abilities. It’s no wonder monster trucks (the toys, anyway) are big hits with our two sons. Now they can try some virtual versions.
How? With the latest app from children’s developer Duck Duck Moose. It’s called Build A Truck, and launched for iPhone and iPad this morning.
It’s not just an app about driving monster trucks, mind. “Build A Truck allows you to customise and build monster trucks,” explains its App Store listing. “But choose carefully, as each decision and building block will have real impact on your trucks when the races begin.”
So, there is educational intent here: building the best truck is about more than just nice colours and big wheels: it’s about “the physics of speed, torque, drag, mass, inertia, friction, acceleration, gravity and more”. Something, frankly, that I could do with a refresher in.
Once built, the trucks can be raced through various courses, including snow, jungle, sewer and an “ever-changing surprise track” to keep kids occupied. It looks very good fun indeed.
Build A Truck - by Duck Duck Moose costs £1.49 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store.
