Blocks seem to be the theme of today, after our earlier post on innovative app Blokify. It’s joined on Apple’s App Store by Lego’s latest free game for children.
It’s called Lego City My City, and is based on the Lego City range of toys, with seven mini-games based on different themed kits like Police, Fire and Coast Guard. The app is aimed at a wide age-range: 5-12 year-olds.
“Bundled together in one app you can be the hero as you catch the escaped crooks in action packed car chases, or on foot in the park. Put out the fires in the city or steer the Coast Guard helicopter to rescue shipwrecked from the sharks,” explains its App Store listing.
“You can even be the fastest in the city by speeding across the finish line first in the slotracer game. If your car breaks down? No worries, just steer the tow truck through city traffic before it is too late. You can even fly the heliplane to deliver cargo to the airport. Just make sure you dodge the oncoming traffic.”
You get the picture. This is designed as a promotion for Lego’s physical toys, so the game is free with no ads (well, in theory the whole app is an ad, but you know what we mean) and no in-app purchases.
The games look fun too: keeping a strong Lego look. If your children own some of the real packs already, there’ll definitely be a thrill to seeing their cars scooting round virtual roads on the touchscreen.
Lego City My City is a free download for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, and if you want more digital Lego fun on iOS, there are plenty of apps to choose from.
