We wrote about the Gro Garden app by developer Gro Play last December when it came out for iPhone and iPad. Now it’s available on Android too.
It’s one of a growing number of apps that want to get children thinking about ecological issues. In this case, the theme is organic gardening. It’s based on a group of creatures called the Micro Organisms, which live under the trees in a garden with Connie the Compost.
“When you feed Connie and her friends, magic things start to happen. They start producing nutritious soil that makes your crops grow faster and taste better. So after harvesting your tasty vegetables you can treat Banja the rabbit and all the other animals in the cottage,” explains its App Store listing.
(Sorry, yes, the rabbit. We forgot to mention the rabbit…)
The idea is that children who use the app will end up with a better understanding of organic gardening, sustainable farming and other eco issues. But it’s all presented in an entertaining and accessible way.
Gro Garden costs £0.65 for Android on the Google Play store.
