VeggieTales get a new ‘appisode’ for iPhone and iPad

Sorry VeggieTales, we’re still not 100% convinced by the word ‘appisode’, even though we’ve seen it applied to a number of children’s apps over the past couple of years.

The word often means apps that blend animation with appy interactivity, in TV-style episodes delivered as individual apps, or as downloads within a single app.

Still, we may be wary of the buzzword, but we like the new VeggieTales app. Produced by developer Plumzi, working with Hollywood studio DreamWorks, it focuses on two vegetables – Bob the tomato and Larry the cucumber.

“Using tap, tilt, swipe and voice functionality, kids will participate in the story through dozens of interactive moments like: talking to Bob using the microphone, rebuilding the dam to prevent the flooding of CabbageVille and making silly prints in the cement,” explains its App Store listing.

The app is based on an actual VeggieTales TV episode, which is good news for fans of that. Our family is new to the show, so the app may be a good introduction for our two sons to the veggie heroes.

VeggieTales Apisode: 3 Builders costs £2.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store.
