Cards on the table: I’m clueless about Barbie. With two sons and a niece who’s not quite yet at the Barbie stage, I’m not the best person to tell you if new Barbie apps are any good or not.

So, picture my face at this question from the App Store listing for Barbie Life, a new iPhone and iPad app from Mattel for fans of its popular doll brand: “Ever wondered what a Schlond Poofa is?”

Not until now, I haven’t! But that’s a question that can apparently be answered by watching a video in this app, which promises “the best of Barbie digital content all at your fingertips”.

So, yes, a simple way to access the videos, music and other stuff that Mattel has been making and distributing online, from a tablet or smartphone. There are also wallpapers to download and use as the device’s homescreen and/or lockscreen background, and photo-editing features.

Barbie Life is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store. Me? I’m off to watch that video and fill the Schlond Poofa-shaped hole in my memory banks…
