Enjoy Miles and Miles of Reptiles with the Cat in the Hat

Our six year-old is still deep in his wildlife phase, so I’ve learned more about reptiles in the last six months than in the previous 36 years! But very little of that new knowledge rhymes.

Here’s an answer to that: a brand new Dr Seuss app that’s all about reptiles. Miles and Miles of Reptiles, in fact, courtesy of The Cat in the Hat.

It’s part of publisher Oceanhouse Media’s series of educational apps using Dr Seuss characters to explain all manner of topics, from science to natural history.

“Come along with the Cat in the Hat in this interactive book app as he explores the world of reptiles- lizards, snakes, turtles, and crocodilians- in his trusty crocodile car,” explains the App Store listing.

“Explore pictures, learn new vocabulary, and personalize the story with your own narration. Kids will slither in delight as they learn about the characteristics shared by most reptiles, basic information about each group, quirky fun facts about individual species, and much, much more”

If you’ve used any of Oceanhouse Media’s previous Dr Seuss apps – and there are a LOT of them, since the company has digitised pretty much the entire back catalogue now – you’ll recognise some of the useful reading features in this new app.

Voice narration is accompanied by word-highlighting, and the ability to tap on words to hear them again. Meanwhile, you can bump the default narrator in favour of recording your own readings with your children, and then share them with anyone else who also owns the app.

Miles and Miles of Reptiles costs £2.49 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, although that’s a 30% off introductory deal, so the price may go up shortly.
