CBeebies Playtime app gets new game after 2m downloads

We really liked the CBeebies Playtime app when it came out last August with four games based on popular children’s shows. Since then, more games have been added to keep it fresh for kids.

Today, the BBC had two bits of news about the app. First, a milestone: nearly 2m downloads in less than six months since it first came out. Second, another new game: Andy’s Dinosaur Adventure. The game is based on a new show on CBeebies here in the UK starring presenter Andy Day.

“Children can travel back in time and join Andy on a dinosaur adventure; take care of their very own dinosaur, find out what food it likes to eat and help Andy feed it, teach it to ROAR, personalise it by changing its colour or even take its photograph to keep and share with their family and friends,” explained CBeebies’ Lizzie Leadbeater in a blog post.

The game also lets kids ride a dinosaur (virtually!) and learn some facts about the real-life dinos that once roamed the planet. Alongside the new game, the existing Make a Picture game has a new pirate theme for children to create digital artworks with.

There are some more interesting stats in Lizzie’s blog post, including the fact that the CBeebies Playtime app has been played more than 22m times so far. It was downloaded nearly 300,000 times over Christmas, and after Christmas Day, 62% of children playing the app were using tablets, versus smartphones.

Anyway, our six year-old is currently going through a bit of a dinosaur phase, so we’re looking forward to seeing what he makes of the new game. It sounds like this won’t be the last addition to the app either: “we have some more exiting updates coming for you soon in 2014, including new words for Alphablocks!” wrote Leadbeater.

CBeebies Playtime is a free download for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

Hi, I tried downloading the app but the app store just shows a blank page. Also I can’t fing anything when I search the apple app store for cbeebies.
Could it be the content is blocked in Netherlands where I’m from?
