Cartoon Network and Lego team up for Calling All Mixels app

Hey! Remember last August when we got quite excited about something called Mixels? It was a partnership between Cartoon Network and Lego involving cartoons, toys and apps.

Well, now you can actually experience it. Calling All Mixels was released as an app for iPhone and iPad last week as a game pitched as a “mixed-up hybrid of action and tower defence”.

We also know more about what exactly the Mixels are: “unique creatures who live to combine… They love to mix with each other to discover powerful new abilities. They also love to mix together anything they find in their world.”

So, it’s a game about mixing and matching characters to find new, powerful combinations – presumably complemented by toys in what sounds like an equivalent to Activision’s Skylanders series of games (and toys).

The game looks fun, with a characterful cartoon style in its graphics. But yes, if you’re wondering, it does use in-app purchases, despite the fact that you’ll also pay for the initial download.

Calling All Mixels costs £2.49 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, and the game then offers a virtual currently called ‘Cubits’ – £0.69 will buy a “handful” of them, £2.49 a “bucket” up to £6.99 for a “vault”.
