If your children are fans of animated movie Rio, they’ll be getting excited about the sequel, which debuts in cinemas this April. To whet their appetite, how about an app for the first film?
It’s out this week, developed by Cupcake Digital and called Rio Read & Play. Note, it follows the story of the first film, not the next one – although we suspect there will be an app along for that by April.
Anyway, this sees blue macaw Blu travelling all the way to Rio de Janeiro to get acquainted with Jewel, who’s not exactly pleased to see him at first.
The app is described as a “deluxe activity app”, which means elements beyond the basic story. “Show your artistic side, painting scenes from the movie with loads of coloring features and plenty of digital stickers,” explains its App Store listing.
There are also a pair of games. Jewel’s Gems involves matching gems, a bit like puzzle game Bejeweled (or, if the gems were swapped for sweets, Candy Crush Saga). Meanwhile, Blu’s Rescue sees Blu flying through a rainforest avoiding “jumping monkeys”. It’s a Flappy Bird for children! Possibly…
Cupcake Digital has also made some downloadable guides for parents and teachers, which can be accessed from its website to browse educational offline activities based on the app.
Rio: Read & Play costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store.
