Official Minecraft books for kids have been pouring off the shelves since publisher Egmont released three last Autumn. Now it has two more on the way.
Minecraft Construction Handbook and Minecraft Combat Handbook will both be released in early April, the company announced today.
The former book is the work of “master build team” (and YouTube stars) FyreUK and promises tutorials on how to make houses, bridges, ships, islands and rollercoasters – among other creations – in the blocktastic game.
“We’ve worked on step-by-step guides for the Construction Handbook, detailing how to create some of the most amazing things in Minecraft,” said FyreUK’s Phil and Matt, who’ve been working with Egmont on the tome. “Readers can learn techniques used by some of the best builders in Minecraft.”
Here’s an example of their work on YouTube:
The second book, the Minecraft Combat Handbook, is more focused on the in-game battles: “How to build a fort, craft armour and weapons, set mob traps, defeat enemies in one-to-one combat and battle their way out of the Nether and the End”.
Minecraft’s developer Mojang is fully on board with the books, which we suspect plenty of parents will be dipping into as well as their children, to understand what Minecraft is all about, and why their kids are having so much fun playing and creating within it.
“Our Minecraft publishing is all about giving the Minecraft community wholly original content,” promises Egmont’s Sarah Bates. “Our books are unique because they are created in partnership with Mojang and Minecraft superfans.”
It’s true that a lot of children get their Minecraft knowledge by watching YouTube – FyreUK is just one of many channels devoted to the game – but having a book to hand while playing on a computer or tablet may well come in handy too.
Both the Minecraft Construction Handbook and Minecraft Combat Handbook will cost £7.99 when they go on sale in early April.
