Me Books is great: an iOS and Android app for buying and reading digital picture books with your children. Now it’s got a new sibling: Me Comics.
Released this week for iPhone, iPad and Android, it does the same thing for children’s comics, including some of the most famous examples.
The app lets you browse a store of digital comics available to buy and download. At launch, most of them cost £1.99, although you get one for free in the initial app download.
Famous brands? Me Comics is starting off with Transformers Prime, My Little Pony, The Beano and Popeye, as well as Mr. Peabody & Sherman – the latter is what you get a free issue of to start your collection.
We talked to the developer of Me Comics, Made in Me, last week – they told us that more comics will be added over the coming weeks and months. There will also be special offers: for example, you can buy all eight My Little Pony comics for £12.99 at the time of writing.
When reading a comic, you swipe to move between pages, and double-tap on individual pictures (or panels) to zoom in. As in Me Books, your children can do more than simply read the stories though.
Tapping on a rainbow-coloured icon at the top-right lets them drag a shape anywhere on-screen, then record words or sounds that will be triggered when that spot on the screen is tapped.
We’re very impressed, although we’ll be spending the next few days seeing if our own children are tempted by comics when they’re a.) digital and b.) don’t have a cover festooned with plastic toys!
Me Comics is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, and a free download for Android from the Google Play store.
