iPad hit Book Creator turns its pages over to Android

Back in September 2011, we wrote about an iPad app called Book Creator, which helped parents create their own e-books on the tablet, either to share with friends or simply let their children read.

Since then, more than 4m e-books have been created using the app, which has topped the App Store charts around the world. Now its developer Red Jumper Studio has released an Android version.

It works in the same way: you take photos from your device Gallery, the camera or any website you like, edit text and place it around them, and then record voice narration. You can even include videos.

“Ideal for children’s picture books, photo books, art books, cook books, manuals, textbooks, and the list goes on,” suggests Red Jumper Studio. So it’s not just an app for children – it’s just that they’re one of the key reasons you might want to be making e-books. It’s also being used by plenty of teachers in schools.

Your books can be uploaded to the Google Play Books service so they’re available on other devices, or shared by email with friends. And if you’re really ambitious, you can turn them into ePub 3 files, for selling on actual e-book stores.

Book Creator costs £1.50 for Android from the Google Play store, while the iPad version remains available for £2.99 on Apple’s App Store.
