CBeebies star Justin Fletcher is a big name on TV, but he’s also increasingly prominent in the world of apps, having released four over the last year.
Now there’s a fifth: Justin’s World – Jigsongs 2. As its name makes clear, it’s a sequel to Justin’s previous Jigsongs app, which came out in September 2013 for iPhone and iPad, then at the end of the year for Android.
As before, the app is all about “jigsaws with a special musical twist”. Children solve a series of digital jigsaw puzzles, and are rewarded in each by a song delivered by Justin in his inimitable style.
Each puzzle comes in easy, medium and difficult versions, with varying pieces to suit different ages and abilities. It’s easy to use too: kids simply touch pieces to make them grow larger, then drag them onto the main picture – guided by Justin’s voice.
The puzzles/songs include I Hear Thunder, A Sailor Went to Sea, Miss Polly had a Dolly, Hey Diddle Diddle and Down in the Jungle. Here’s the difference to the first Jigsongs app though: this one uses an in-app purchase.
That means you get I Hear Thunder for free, but can then choose to make a single 69p purchase that permanently unlocks the other puzzles and songs. That’s good value, and as a parent, you have control over whether the purchase is made: we know in-app purchases have a bit of a bad reputation with some parents, but in this case, there’s nothing to worry about.
Justin’s World – Jigsongs 2 is a free download for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store. It’s not on Android yet, but perhaps it’ll follow his previous apps to Google-powered devices in the coming months.
