Disney Junior Play brings popular characters to iOS

Disney has a huge collection of children’s apps available now. The latest, Disney Junior Play, is well worth a look if your kids are fans of all things mousy (and Neverland Pirates-y / Sofia-y / McStuffins-y…)

Released for iPhone and iPad earlier this month, it collects some of the most popular shows from the Disney Junior channel, and offers mini-games, puzzles, digital sticker scenes and music videos for them.

Interactivity is very much the focus, then, which is where this app has a different focus from the previous Disney Junior Appisodes app, which was more about watching full episodes with interactivity around them.

For now, Disney Junior Play focuses on four specific shows: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Doc McStuffins, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, and Sofia the First.

When you download the app for free, you get a Disney Junior Favorites pack included, with four mini-games and a digital sticker book. The shows each get their own separate packs, though, which parents buy using in-app purchases.

Each of them costs £1.99, although you can choose to pay £2.99 for a two-pack or £4.99 to unlock the lot. We’re assuming that more packs will be added in the coming months if the app does well.

Disney says the various packs will include a variety of games, from jigsaw puzzles and catching games to dress-up scenes and hide-and-seek. Each pack also comes with 25 digital stickers, which can be used to create scenes.

Up to four profiles can be created within the app if you have several children, and the in-app store is protected with an extra PIN, ensuring that you as a parent have control over when (or if) extra packs are bought.

Disney Junior Play is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
