Montessori Maths: Multiplication app is fun x10

We’ve followed the apps of developer Les Trois Elles with interest: the company has released a succession of very good maths apps for children over the past couple of years.

The latest Montessori Maths app focuses on… Well, you’ve probably guessed that from the headline and app title. It’s all about the times tables and multiplying.

Montessori Maths: Multiplication spreads its education across four activities for children wanting to practise their multiplication skills: a board, a stamp game, a bead frame and a magic slate.

There are four difficulty levels to test children of varying age and ability, and some fun too: three multiplying mini-games called Missing Digit, Whiz Quiz and Bubble Games. Oh, and there’s a mysterious ‘Monster Lab’ too.

Everything looks neat and accessible, with canny use of colour coding to represent units, tens, hundreds and thousands. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into it, as with the previous apps in the series.

We’re also boggled (in a good way) about the range of numbers covered: “from 0 to 999,999″ according to its App Store listing. That should keep even the most keen kids engaged – for a while at least.

Montessori Maths: Multiplication costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
