There are lots of TV shows I wish my children had been more into, so I’d have had a better excuse to watch them. Yo Gabba Gabba comes very near the top of the list.

If your kids DO enjoy it, you should definitely check out the latest official app for iOS and Android: Yo Gabba Gabba! Music is Awesome! which was released last week.

It takes the Nick Jr. show as the starting point for some fun musical experimentation, with five activities based around keyboard, guitar, bass, horn, drum and a microphone (so yes, six instruments, if you’re counting).

“Today we are going to dance with your favorite Yo Gabba Gabba! buddies, as seen in Nick Jr., in five mini games that will get kids jumping, jiving and wiggling to awesome music,” explains its app store listing.

“First help Muno, Plex, Toodee, Foofa and Brobee dress up in funky fashions, then select from 6 cool instruments and finally get ready to jam with the band.”

Besides making their own music, children can watch a music video – We Love to Rock – and play with the digital colouring and stickering pages within the app. It’s developed by Cupcake Digital, which has a good track record with these kinds of apps.

Yo Gabba Gabba! Music is Awesome! costs £1.49 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, and £1.17 for Android from the Google Play store.
