In case you missed it, Marvel has been owned by Disney for a while now, meaning the likes of Spider-Man, Captain America and Hulk are stable-mates of Mickey, Donald and co. Oh, and Star Wars. Yes, that’s owned by Disney too.
Anyway, Disney’s latest app for Marvel’s world of superheroes and supervillains is aimed at children. Marvel Origins was released for iPhone and iPad this week.
It’s a collection of “origin stories” for characters including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Avengers and Hulk – origin stories being the tales of how they got their superpowers in the first place.
“Read along (or enjoy the audio narration from Stan Lee!) with these exciting origin stories, filled with interactive activities, tappables, collectibles and amazing visuals of fans of all ages,” explains its App Store listing.
Stan Lee? Only the chap who co-created Marvel’s most famous characters. That’s one reason this may appeal to fans of all ages, even if they know those origin stories inside out already.
“Whether you’re helping Peter Parker use his new Spider-Man powers, getting Iron Man suited up to defeat the Mandarin or helping Captain America, Hulk, and the rest of the Avengers defend the planet from evil, you’ll love being part of these marvelous [sic] Marvel adventures,” explains the blurb.
An extra bonus: a mini-game – Avengers Origins: Assemble! – which two people can play together if they have a pair of iOS devices and are on the same Wi-Fi network at the time.
Marvel Origins is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, although you only get the mini-game and Iron Man’s story as part of it. The other stories are available as individual £1.99 in-app purchases, or a one-off payment of £3.99 to unlock the lot. They have also been released in the past as individual apps.
