Apps developer TribePlay has a growing collection of its Dr Panda apps, which let children play at professions from bus driver and handyman to beautician and hospital doctor.
The company’s latest app is a bit different, in that it’s introducing a new character. No, not a panda. Dr Panda & Toto’s Treehouse is based on a turtle called… Well, you’ve probably guessed that he’s called Toto by now.
He even voices the app store listing. “I’ve just hatched and would love a friend to play with and take care of me! Can you help me? I live in a big treehouse all by myself, and I need you to help me make food, wash up, and of course play together,” it explains.
“I may be small, but I love to play! We can play basketball, or go on the tire swing, or even blow big bubbles! When we’re hungry, there’s a nice kitchen where we can make sandwiches or even big ice cream cones. All that playing is tiring, though, so I’m glad I have a comfy bed to sleep in.”
So, it’s part virtual pet game and part mini-game collection, all based around Toto and his treehouse. You’ll also spot a guest appearance from Dr Panda, but we suspect that if this takes off, Toto could star in some more apps solo.
He seems like a fun character with potential, anyway, and there’s plenty to do in this app. As an added incentive for parents to buy it, TribePlay is working with wildlife charity the WWF, supporting its Adopt a Turtle scheme with the app.
Dr Panda & Toto’s Treehouse costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
