You wait a while for a new Star Wars app, then two come along at once. We wrote about Star Wars Annual 2015 App earlier today, but Lego has also launched a revamped Lego Star Wars app this week.
Note, this isn’t the Lego Star Wars game, which has been around for a while for iPhone and iPad as Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles. The new app is more for fans of the Lego Star Wars toys and videos.
Kids (and adult Lego fans, obv) can sign in to the app using their Lego ID, starting by choosing the light side or the dark side, which is a nice touch for fans.
The app is partly about sharing the Lego Star Wars things you’ve made in the real world, and browsing those made by other people.
“Take pictures of your awesome new creations with the app and upload them directly to the Creations gallery where millions of fans can see and comment on them,” explains its App Store listing.
“Keep track of what other fans are saying about your creation, like and comment on other users’ creations.” Be nice, now – Lego says it’s moderating all pics, descriptions, tags and comments round the clock, to ensure they’re child-friendly.
The app also pulls in Lego Star Wars videos: short films, trailers and TV ads. It’s not simply streaming them from YouTube either: you can download them to your device for offline viewing – good for bored children on long journeys.
Anyway, it sounds like a very handy app for Lego Star Wars fans, particularly those looking for inspiration about what to build next with their real-world bricks.
Lego Star Wars is a free download for iPhone from Apple’s App Store.
