Barbie has been getting dressed up by children for *consults Wikipedia* more than 55 years now, but in 2014 that’s happening digitally as well as physically.

For example, the new app from developer Budge Studios, which came out this week. Barbie Magical Fashion – Dress Up is an official Barbie-branded app for kids, and it’s all about the outfits.

“Transform into a princess, mermaid, fairy or unicorn,” explains its App Store listing. “Design a beautiful outfit, style your hair, and add glittering accessories and colourful make up.”

Expect plenty of princess gowns, tiaras and other… sparkly stuff. Oh, and mermaid tails, which is always a bonus.

Barbie Magical Fashion – Dress Up is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, but it’s a “freemium” app, so there are some in-app purchases.

You can buy the mermaid, unicorn or fairy packs for £2.99 each, or £6.99 for the lot.
