Disney’s Club Penguin remains one of the most popular virtual worlds for children, even if like rival Moshi Monsters, it’s now having to compete with a host of mobile apps for kids’ time and interest.
But also like Moshi Monsters, Club Penguin has been spawning apps of its own. The latest is Club Penguin Puffle Wild, which was released this week for iPhone and iPad.
It’s a match-three puzzle game that sees children trying to beat more than 60 levels, while collecting puffle characters along the way – they’ll be familiar to anyone with Club Penguin experience, of course.
So, genre-wise it’s a bit like Candy Crush Saga, except with in-app purchases trying to be a little bit more child-friendly (or, as relevantly, parent-friendly, since it’s parents who’ll have to give the game their seal of approval).
So, children can play the 60 main levels and use a blue puffle creature. But if they’re already members of Club Penguin, they can play 15 more levels, collect other kinds of puffles and export them to the main Club Penguin, and get future updates to the app.
But for non-members, there are also in-app purchases to unlock those premium features one-by-one: good news for parents who don’t want to shell out for a full subscription.
Club Penguin Puffle Wild is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
