Brain-training apps are very popular with adults, especially those – me! – worried about their grey cells starting to evaporate. One of the most popular examples is Lumosity, with tens of millions of users.

Now the company behind it is trying something different: an educational app for children. It’s called LumiKids Park, and was released for iPad this week.

It’s designed around a virtual play-park, with a range of mini-games designed to test core skills like sorting, paying attention and visual-motor coordination. Except not in a dry way: here, the games involve “critters” – cute little monsters who kids have to sort into puddles, feed and watch playing hide’n’seek.

Lumosity says it’s all based on serious child development knowledge, with the app also enabling parents to see how their children are playing and progressing. More apps will follow this one in the coming months, too.

LumiKids Park by Lumosity is a free download for iPad from Apple’s App Store.
