Curious Words app turns kids into mini filmmakers

curious-wordsCurious Hat is one of the most inventive children’s app publishers out there, having released a succession of apps that mix digital fun with real-world creation and activity.

Its latest release is Curious Words, and it might just be the most intriguing yet. It’s an app that aims to get children creating their own micro-movies by filming videos in response to a series of single words.

“We are trying to stimulate children (and adults) to connect with the real world around them. This time we use words, photography and videos,” Curious Hat’s Luca Prasso told us ahead of the app’s release.

“The child is presented a random word. Inspired by that, she has to record a one second video and move on to the next word.
The child is stimulated to look around, explore the environment, find inspiration in objects, colours, expressions and ‘fit’ the word proposed.”

Kids can then turn their creation into a full movie, with a voiceover and music added to their one-second videos. It’s easy to use too, with children swiping left and right to choose words, up and down to change the camera filter, and diagonally to change the narrator’s voice.

Once finished, the results can be saved to the iPhone or iPad’s camera roll, for sharing on to friends and family members. It sounds perfect for creative kids.

Curious Words costs £1.49 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
