Big Hero 6 is Disney’s next blockbuster animated film, and as is now the way of these things, it has a spin-off mobile game: Big Hero 6 Bot Fight.
It’s a “match-three puzzle adventure” which some grown-ups may recognise as influenced by a game called Puzzle & Dragons. Like that, the gameplay involves making matches at the bottom of the screen to fight battles at the top.
Here, of course, the characters doing the fighting are robots, with the game structured around collecting new ones – from “hundreds” available – and then levelling your chosen team up into a bot fighting force to be reckoned with.
Social features are also part of the action: “Bring along other players to complete missions and earn rewards,” explains the game’s app store listing. There will also be weekly events, as in Puzzle & Dragons and similar games.
A quick warning: in-app purchases are also part of Big Hero 6 Bot Fight, and if your children are playing it without your in-app purchase restrictions set, the bill could be much more than the price of a cinema ticket: the game sells its virtual “prisms” currency for up to £49.99 at a time.
We haven’t got a long way into Big Hero 6 Bot Fight yet: the most important thing will be how aggressively (or not) the in-app purchases are pushed during the game. We’ll report back on that, because this is likely to be a very popular game.
Big Hero 6 Bot Fight is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store; a free download for Android from the Google Play store; and a free download for Windows Phone from Microsoft’s store.
