We’re always chuffed when we find an entertaining app that’s designed to be played by children and parents together, rather than just kids on their own. QuizFlick Jr is the latest.
Released this week by developer Happi Papi for iPhone and iPad, it’s a blend of trivia questions and flick-action gaming – described as “a table top game for your family game night”.
(In truth, I suspect that might mean it’s better played on an iPad than on an iPhone, if you’re all gathering round a table.)
The game is for between one and four players at a time, with each person tapping in, then deciding if they want to answer questions for adults or for children. That’s how QuizFlick Jr keeps it fair when parents and kids are playing together – it advises that the latter should be seven and up, mind.

“Play for balls by correctly answering custom made trivia questions from 200 different and modern categories,” explains its App Store listing. That’s the “quiz” but what about the “flick” part? Ah…
“Once a player has won 10 balls the game moves on to 3 stylish flick games. The player with the most balls entering the flick rounds have an edge but is not guaranteed to win. Aim your flick shots carefully, judge your speed and outsmart your opponents before the buzzer sounds.”
There are more than 3,000 questions to answer in the game, which is currently available in English and Swedish-language versions. It reminds me, a bit, of family get-togethers in my childhood, when adults and children alike would play Trivial Pursuit, and it would usually end in shouting.
I suspect QuizFlick Jr may follow a similar path – the shouting part was fun, I should add – with the bonus that its rounds are designed to be played in 5-10 minutes.
QuizFlick Jr costs £2.99 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
