Mmm, ice cream… Our local ice cream van has started reappearing outside our sons’ school gates every night. Cue tantrums when they don’t get one, but also (perhaps) cue interest in the new Dr Panda app.
It’s called Dr Panda’s Ice Cream Truck, and it was released this month for iOS and Android devices. It’s the latest app from developer TribePlay featuring its panda figurehead, who’s tried many more professions than ‘doctor’ over the past couple of years.
Here, he’s running an ice cream van. “Chocolate? Vanilla? Strawberry? All three!? You decide! In Dr. Panda’s Ice Cream Truck all the flavours you can mix up all sorts of different flavours with biscuits, chocolate, nuts and more to make the perfect ice cream,” explains the app store listing.
There’s definitely a Toca Boca feel about this game, which provides open-ended play for children rather than tying them to specific goals and tasks. There’s just one task: make ice cream for the truck’s animal customers. The flavours, size and toppings are up to your child.
There is some feedback, mind: the animals make their views clearly known on how tasty (or not) the iced treats are. Although we’ll be honest, they’re pretty easy to please.
Dr Panda’s Ice Cream Truck costs £0.79 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, and £0.79 for Android from the Google Play store.
