Children in the UK know Justin Fletcher best from his shows on TV channel CBeebies, from Something Special to Justin’s House and Gigglebiz. But Justin is also active in the world of children’s apps.

We’ve written regularly about the excellent Justin’s World series of educational apps, and now there’s a new one: Justin’s World – Alphabet Machine.

Released last week for iPhone and iPad by developer Nearly Too Late, it’s an alphabetical app for pre-school children, promising to make learning all 26 letters “memorable, meaningful and fun”.

How? Well, videos of Justin performing comic skits for each letter, as well as an alphabet game designed to reinforce children’s learning.

“If you select ‘video’ there are 26 comedy clips to watch. Each one contextualises the letter in a fun and slapstick way. Select ‘game’ and operate the alphabet machine to find 4 pictures that begin with the chosen letter. For every picture you find, the reward is to gunge Justin with custard,” explains the App Store listing.

Justin worked on the app with his long-term collaborator Allan Johnston – Something Special was their co-creation – and it’s as well put together as the previous Justin’s World apps, and simple enough to use for its young audience with minimal parental help. That said, it’s still fun to use together.

Justin’s World – Alphabet Machine costs £2.99 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
