Milli is a small snail, but her app for kids is big fun

Many children are (rightly) fascinated by snails, whether in the real world or fiction. We think a new app called Milli: A Small Snail in a Big World will find plenty of young fans, then.

Released for iPhone, iPad and Android by developer Honig Studios, it’s a story-app about a “curious little snail” called Milli, who goes on a journey to find out what snails are four – thankfully not asking any French gourmands.

“Milli and her best friend Miro, the ladybird (who is neither a lady or a bird) set off to learn more about who they are and what they’re good at, and along the way they learn more about the animals they meet,” explains its App Store listing.

“Why is Wanda the Owl so clever, and how does Leon Chameleon hide so well? Find out, right here.”

We love this app: it has beautiful illustrations and rhymes that trip off the tongue. There are plenty of things for children to tap to see what happens, but they’ll enjoy reading through the story too. And the message is a positive one: “Milli makes lots of new friends and finally realises what she is really good at – being helpful.”

(She could tell that to the snails that crawl all over our doormat, to be honest…)

Milli: A Small Snail in a Big World costs £2.29 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, and £2.18 for Android from the Google Play store.
