“William, William, Henry, Stephen, Henry, Richard, John, OI!” If you haven’t ever seen the fab Horrible Histories ‘Kings and Queens’ song, go and watch it now. We’ll wait here for you.
Believe it or not, that’s the only way I can remember what the kings and queens of England/Britain were called. But Aimer Media‘s Kings & Queens app will hopefully boost my knowledge, even if it’s really aimed at my children.
The App Store listing reckons Kings & Queens is “an ideal starting-point for anyone aged 11 and above with an interest in the the Royal Family, royal history and the line of succession”. I think it might be just as interesting for slightly younger children too, like my Horrible Histories-mad eight year-old too.
The app delivers a comprehensive but accessible look at British monarchs through the ages, with a mixture of text, images (including digitised paintings), animation and quizzes. There’s lots of information to digest, but it never feels overwhelming.
Whether your children are studying a specific monarch at school or simply getting to know some of the historic rulers they’ve not heard of before, this iPad app is well worth a look.
Kings & Queens: 1,000 Years of British Royal History costs £4.99 for iPad from Apple’s App Store.
