Tinky Winky! Dipsy! Laa-Laa! Po! Sorry if we’ve just put the Teletubbies theme song on your internal jukebox for the rest of the day…
The famous preschool TV show returned in 2015 with a new version, and now there are apps for that. Four of them, in fact: one for each of the four Teletubbies characters. The idea is that parents can choose their child’s favourite(s) to download.
Each of the apps, developed by Cube Kids, follows a similar pattern: with a virtual Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa or Po for your children to play with on the screen.
That includes mini-games featuring some of the familiar characters and features of the TV show: the windmill, custard machine, Tubby toast, Tubby phone and rabbits for example.
However, each character has their own quirks too. “Laa-Laa loves to perform and dance, can you help her with her dance routine, props and choice of music,” explains her app’s blurb.
“Can you help look after Po? Wash, feed, play and help put Po to bed every day in this fun game… Dipsy loves to be creative, help him colour and decorate and create amazing hats… Tinky Winky needs your help to place the object safely in his bag. You will learn shapes, numbers, colours and have fun,” explain the others.
The Teletubbies look exactly as you’d expect them to from the show, so their young fans should be delighted with the apps.
Tinky Winky - Teletubbies costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad; Dipsy - Teletubbies costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad; Laa-Laa - Teletubbies costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad; and Po - Teletubbies costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad – all from Apple’s App Store.
This kind of collection is tailor-made for one of Apple’s app ‘bundles’ where you get several for a lower price, so we’ll let you know as soon as that’s available, if your kids may struggle to choose just one of the characters.
