Millions of children are still watching the Minecraft exploits of Joseph “Stampy” Garrett and his friends on YouTube. Now he’s bringing his Wonder Quest show back for a second season.
The first series was released in 2015, as an attempt to blend Minecraft with educational science themes, complete with its own animated spin-off expanding on the latter.
Season one has been watched more than 60m times so far, but now it’s time for season two, which was announced yesterday by Maker Studios, Stampy’s production partner on Wonder Quest.
“In season two, Stampy Cat and his friend Wizard Keen will again work together to save their town of Wonderberg, this time from Rama, an evil inventor who uses time travel to stop wonderers from wondering,” they explained.
“Stampy and his crew of heroes go back in time to help some of the most important figures in history, including the ancient Egyptians, Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison.”
Like the first series, there’ll also be some guest stars drawn from the YouTube world. Wonder Quest’s second season will feature cameos from The Diamond Minecart, Sqaishey, LDShadowLady and Shay Carl, as well as non-Minecrafters Hank Green and Rhett and Link.
There’s already a trailer for the new series:
New episodes of Wonder Quest and its I Wonder spin-off will start being released on 20 August at the rate of one each a week.
“It has been amazing to expand the world of Wonder Quest with new adventures, and we have even more surprises in season two,” said Garrett. “I can’t wait for my fans to see it.”
We’re looking forward to it too: the idea of introducing science (and history) through Minecraft-led videos has bags of potential. If Wonder Quest does well in its second season, perhaps we’ll see more YouTube stars trying this sort of thing.
You can subscribe to the standalone Wonder Quest channel on YouTube to be notified when new episodes go live.
