There aren’t as many great new children’s storybook-apps coming out as there were a few years ago: sadly, the publishers of these apps often found it hard to persuade parents to buy them.
That said, the book-apps that DO come out are often excellent, and that’s certainly something we’d say about Tiny Great True Stories from Editora Caixote.
It’s been out for a little while, but we’ve only just managed to have a proper sit-down with it. We’re very glad that we did though.
“Be enchanted by the three beautiful stories that make up this app-book and help the penguins contaminated by an oil spill, the bear who lives alone in the zoo and the boy who wants to meet Santa Claus,” explains its app store listing.
The stories are told with beautiful illustrations, and there’s a wider theme of positivity and “solidarity” running through the three stories. We think children will love to re-read and replay them, discovering new aspects they may have missed first time round.
Like several of our favourite book-apps from recent years, there is also an option for your child to record themselves – or you, of course – narrating the stories.
Tiny Great True Stories costs £1.49 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, but there’s a new version that gives you a whole story for free, so you can see what you think.
