Toca Hair Salon 2 cuts up a treat on iPhone, iPad and Kindle Fire

In what’s already a big, big day for new children’s apps, Toca Hair Salon 2 might just be the biggest release of the lot. It’s a follow-up to the original Toca Hair Salon from Toca Boca, which has got millions of children playing virtual hairdressers.

This sequel has four new characters waiting in your salon, as well as new tools to primp them with: a razor, curling iron, straightener and crimper, as well as the existing tools to cut and spray hair-dye.

You can wash the characters’ hair with shampoo before towelling them off, add accessories like hats and glasses, and (as before) take a photo of how they look before starting again with a new style or character.

Having got our hands on an early download, we’re very impressed. Toca Hair Salon 2 is more complex than its predecessor, in that there are more tools and options, but it’s just as easy to use – even for a very young child.

We also love the characters, whose reactions to your chopping and spraying never fail to raise a smile. As ever, there are no ads or in-app purchases: you pay once and get all the features.

Toca Hair Salon 2 costs £0.69 / $0.99 on the App Store, although this is apparently a limited-time discount, so expect the price to go up at some point. And here’s an interesting thing: it’s also available for Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet – the first time Toca Boca has released an Android app.
