We really like Launchpad Toys’ range of Toontastic Jr. apps, which get children choosing scenes and characters, then animating them and recording their own voiceovers to create mini-movies. Now they’ve got a big (green) name on board: Shrek.

Toontastic Jr. Shrek went live on the App Store this morning for iPhone and iPad, promising kids that they can “create your own Shrek movie… Remix and retell the classic Shrek movie while recording your own voice along the way”.

Shrek, Fiona and Donkey are all included, as are 12 scenes from the Shrek films to animate them within. A StoryShare feature also lets your kids collaborate with family or friends on their mini-films over the internet – naturally, this is carefully moderated so they won’t be encountering strangers.

“Storm Dragon’s castle, rescue Princess Fiona, battle Lord Farquaad, and crack jokes with Donkey – it’s your movie!” chirps the App Store listing. We’re very excited about this one, it’s fair to say.
