Moshi Monsters is still big for kids: more than 70m children had registered to use the webby virtual world by the end of 2012. But it hasn’t been turned into a full app for tablets and smartphones… yet.
That may be changing. The company behind Moshi Monsters is British firm Mind Candy, and in its latest financial report it gave some details on its plans for Moshi Monsters apps.
“Building on work started in 2012 the company is developing new smartphone and tablet titles due to be released in 2013 and 2013 as part of its diversification strategy in order to appeal to a larger demographic,” explains the report.
2012? Back then, Moshi Monsters boss Michael Acton Smith said that the company was working on a full app already. “We’re hopefully going to launch Pocket Moshi or Moshi-on-the-Move or whatever it’s called in the next few months,” he told a conference that July. “We’re going to make it free, and hopefully have millions of kids playing it.”
It’s that app that Moshi Monsters fans are still waiting for, so here’s hoping it arrives later this year or early next.
In the meantime, there are some spin-off apps available: Moshi Monsters: Moshlings profiles the companion creatures from the virtual world, Moshi Monsters: Buster’s Lost Moshlings is a collection of mini-games, and Ladybird: Read it Yourself includes some Moshi digital books.
