PARENTAL KLAXON: There’s a new Toca Boca app, and it’s a humdinger. Toca Mini was released for iPhone and iPad this morning.
The app is all about creating characters: little 3D avatars that start as a blank white doll, and can then be painted and have eyes, mouths noses and eyebrows added, along with a host of other digital stamps to decorate them.
“Make scary monsters, fantasy animals or your best friends! Dress up, dress down, three eyes or funny feet? The Minis can become whatever you want,” explains the App Store listing.
The Mini characters are animated – including their facial features – and jig about while your kids are creating them. When they’re finished, they can be saved as snapshots for showing off later.
We’ve been playing a review copy for a few days – stand by for a full verdict later today – and we can say it’s very good fun indeed. It’s more in the vein of previous hits like Toca Hair Salon and Toca Tailor in terms of the scope for kids’ creativity. The best comparison we can make is with Nintendo’s Mii characters, which is high praise.
Toca Mini costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store. A demo video is below, but also check out how we made Mario, Miley Cyrus and other celebrities using it.
