There’s an official Doctor Who TARDIS app for iPhone and iPad

We tend to be a little sceptical about augmented reality apps, as they can often be more about the whizzy technology than the fun. We’ll make an exception for Doctor Who though.

Doctor Who! We know a lot of children are watching the BBC’s sci-fi series, even the scary episodes. But we sense parents may be just as geekily-excited about the release of an official TARDIS app this week.

Developed by Useless Creations, the app gets you to choose which version of the iconic police-box transporter you want to fly – from the latest Doctors right back to the first one 50 years ago – then whiz it around your real-world location.

That’s where the augmented reality comes in: you point the iPhone’s camera at the room / location you’re in, then can fly the TARDIS around. And before you ask, yes, it makes all the right noises.

Doctor Who: TARDIS costs £1.49 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store.

And if that’s not enough Doctor Who for you, the same company recently released an official Doctor Who: Sonic Screwdriver app with similar features. Slightly older kids (who you trust with in-app purchases) may also enjoy the Doctor Who: Legacy game too.
