Kung Fu Panda gets a Toontastic Jr storytelling app

One of our favourite trends of 2013 has been apps that encourage kids to create stories, not just consume them. Toontastic Jr. Kung Fu Panda is the latest.

Published by Launchpad Toys, it’s the latest in a Toontastic Jr series that has taken in pirates and Shrek in the last year. Now it’s time for another film to get the treatment.

What’s the treatment? Well, the apps are based around children choosing a beginning, middle and ending for their story, then moving characters around the screen and recording their own dialogue.

This time round, there are 30 characters and scenes to play with, as well as – and this is a great touch – songs from the film to mix and match into a new soundtrack.

As with previous Toontastic Jr. apps, there’s also a feature called StoryShare that enables kids to team up with people on other devices elsewhere in the world – for example, cousins or grandparents – to create stories together.

Toontastic Jr. Kung Fu Panda is a free download for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, but you pay £1.49 in a single in-app purchase to unlock the full app.
