Alicia Keys releases her second children’s app: Mookey

Music is just the start of Alicia Keys’ talents, it seems. After getting involved in last year’s The Journals of Mama Mae & LeeLee, she’s back for a second bash at children’s apps.

Alicia Keys: Mookey was released for iPhone and iPad this week, billed as the “second volume” in the Mama Mae & LeeLee series – now with more of a focus on Alicia, perhaps to attract as many music-loving parents as possible.

“Meet Bali, an imaginative boy, his not-so-imaginary-friend, Mookey and his pushy cousin, Ankita,” explains its App Store listing. “Follow along as they encounter danger and learn about courage, acceptance, and forgiveness in the face of bullying.”

So, there’s a story, with animation, interactivity and a musical mini-game. And part of the appeal is “exclusive” music from Alicia Keys herself, which sits alongside the story.

Released by developer Bento Box Interactive, it sees Alicia make an appearance in virtual form, with bold 3D characters, lots to tap and swipe, and an engaging storyline for children to follow.

Alicia Keys: Mookey is a free download for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store. The full app has 22 chapters, but you only get four in the initial free download. Unlocking the rest costs £1.49 in a one-off in-app purchase.
